News: Finnair appoints Vauramo as chief executive

Pekka Vauramo was appointed to the location of chief executive of Finnair.

Vauramo, who’s presently based in Hong Kong working as chief operating officer of the MacGregor Business Area of Cargotec, a Finnish cargo and cargo handling company, will take in the role on June 1st.

Since 2007 he has served in various positions at Cargotec, along with head of Cargotec’s MacGregor Business, deputy chief executive of Cargotec in addition head of the Kalmar Business Unit.

Vauramo, 55, started his managerial career at Sandvik, a Swedish mining and construction company, where he worked from 1985 to 2007.

Vauramo holds an MSc (mining) degree from Helsinki University of Technology.

“Pekka Vauramo has an extended international experience of logistics and business-to-business trade in global markets.

“His excellent track record in managing complex partnership processes, strong experience within the Asian markets combined together with his leadership skills are an ideal match for Finnair,” said Klaus Heinemann, chairman of the board, Finnair.

“Our company has a transparent strategy regarding Asian growth and reducing costs through partnerships, and this is critical to continue the prompt execution of this strategy.”

Pekka Vauramo will succeed Mika Vehviläinen, who left the corporate on the end of February 2013 to affix Cargotec as its chief executive.
