VisitBritain hails tourism success of London 2012 Olympic Games

Britain received 31.1 million visitors last year, a one per cent increase at the figure for 2011, making it the perfect year for inbound tourism since 2008. Those visitors that did come also spent more, with some £18.6 billion changing hands, a four per cent increase on 2011 and a record high in nominal terms. Despite this, VisitBritain recorded a five per cent slip in visitor numbers during August last year, largely thanks to holidaymakers who didn’t have tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Games deciding to delay or cancel trips. Sports fans who did make the adventure to the united kingdom were happy to spend money, however, with the organisation recording a nine per cent increase in tourism revenue in August last year, despite the autumn in visitor numbers....

Officially opening both-day Hotel & Catering Show 2013 (H&CS), Deirdre Wells OBE, Head of Tourism for the dept for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), set the agenda for the revamped hospitality event in a keynote which addressed ways that the govt helps tackle economic recovery through tourism investment within the South of britain. “Economic growth should be achieved through labor and DCMS is operating equally hard to nurture that growth.
